Introduction to Masterclass

Metagenomics is the study of genetic material recovered directly from environmental samples. This is useful when attempting to understand what microbes are present and what they are doing in a particular environment.

Advancements in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies regarding throughput, read length and accuracy had a major impact on microbiome research by significantly improving 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing.

Metatranscriptomic Sequencing provides direct access to culturable and non-culturable microbial transcriptome information by large-scale, high-throughput sequencing of transcripts from all microbial communities in specific environmental samples.

Metatranscriptomic Sequencing offers an opportunity to randomly sequence mRNAs as a unit for understanding the regulation of complex processes in microbial communities.

Applications of Metagenomics & Metatranscriptomics

In this section we are discussing some of the potential areas of application of Metagenomics & Metatranscriptomics analysis & how it can be helpful in these areas to carryout analysis.

Different Types of Analysis

Majorly, there are 3 different types of Metagenomics & Metatranscriptomics Analysis so below we have tried to list them down to help you take better decision if this masterclass will be relevant for your learning and be helpful in your intended area of research.

Targeted Metagenomics

certain conserved regions are amplified with PCR primers and sequenced

Shotgun Metagenomics

This method is non-discriminant in that it will sequence everything in your sample.

Amplicon Sequencing

16S amplicon sequencing is commonly used for identifying and classifying bacteria.

In this 3 Days Masterclass on Metagenomics & Metatranscriptomics we will be focusing on 16s Amplicon Sequencing.

Detailed Agenda of The Masterclass
